Our Aims

Since its foundation on 27th March 1998, the North-Eastern German Society of Gynecologic Oncology has actively been working for the benefit of patients with gynecological malignancies.

The in-patient and outpatient care shall be optimized by the development and compliance of standards in diagnosis, therapy and aftercare. A coherent and effective tumor documentation shall be established to go further into clinical questions in common. An elementary goal is to improve decisively the expectancy and the relapse-free survival in the different tumor entities having special regard to the quality of life.

The patient care shall be improved by a close cooperation of the clinics with the resident physicians, all interested work groups and through interdisciplinary cooperation.


The society gives advice in the care of tumor patients.

Objective of the society is also the targeted further education of physicians and non-medical assistance professions in the field of gynecologic oncology. A whole series of internal and open further education and self-improvement events are coordinated and performed. Sitting-ins and traineeships are offered both for the medical and non-medical staff.

Basic aim of the society is the design and performance of clinical trials on the different tumor entities at a national and international level.

The North-Eastern German Society of Gynecologic Oncology (NOGGO) was established on 27th March 1998 in Berlin. It is already counting more than 600 members (effective December 2008) from different hospitals, medical practices and industry which are very involved in gynecologic oncology.

The interdisciplinarity is expressed by the active membership of the different specialties: gynecology, internal medicine, pathology, radiology, general medicine.

As important purpose, the in-patient and outpatient care shall be improved by the development and observance of standards in diagnosis, therapy and aftercare.

This shall be reached by a close cooperation of the hospitals and resident doctors and all interested work groups and through interdisciplinary cooperation.

It is also an essential goal to improve the expectancy and the relapse-free survival in gynecological malignancies in particular consideration of the quality of life.

The society gives advice in the care of patients with gynecological malignancies.

In addition, since 18th June 1998 a cooperation treaty with the support group Oncological Patients‘ Workshop (OPS) Berlin-Brandenburg has been existing. Advanced training courses have been designed with this association and are conducted in common. Important topics are among others:

positive impact on cancer through physical movement with music

  • Is my cancer inherited and hereditable?

  • Is there a music therapy in cancer?

  • lack of appetite in cancer patients

  • sense and nonsense of alternative cancer therapies

  • chronic fatigue syndrome in cancer patients

  • colour and look guidance for cancer patients

  • sexuality after cancer diagnosis

Targeted further education for physicians and non-medical assistance professions in the field of gynecologic oncology are organized as well. A whole series of internal and open further education and self-improvement events are coordinated and performed.

Besides the legal and organizational requirements for good clinical trials according to ICH-GCP, practical aid for the improvement of cooperation between principal investigator, study coordinator, auditor, Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, monitor and sponsor shall be imparted. Sitting-ins and traineeships are offered to the medical as well as non-medical staff.

Within the frame of their membership, members receive the detailed information service with all important internal matter, advanced training courses, messages from the work groups, board/advisory board and office.

  • Lower attendance fee at certain meetings and conferences

An important goal is the design and performance of clinical trials on the different tumor entities at a national and international level. Concerning this, requirements for a certification of clinical trials as NOGGO-trial were defined:

  • Conduct of the clinical trial according to the GCP-guidelines

  • Prior multicentric design and conduct (body groups / board)

  • Nomination of a Study Management Committee (distribution of responsibilities)

  • Independent data monitoring

  • Schedule / realistic case estimation

  • Financial budget

Common publications (schedule, for the NOGGO-Study Group: Study Management Committee, study coordination, study participants) are submitted to the board resp. the body groups prior to release. An application for certification has to be submitted by a formal written request to the board/advisory board and afterwards to the German Cancer Society.
